ISB offers a balanced and rigorous multilingual program with a choice of two language options - French or Spanish. ISB implements its academic curriculum following the guidelines of the International Baccalaureate's (IBO) curricular framework, in a progressive language immersion environment. Through IBO's curricular guidelines, students are taught to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged citizens, who gain practical experience in being part of an international community.
Established in 1968 to create a common curriculum and a university-entry credential for geographically mobile students, IBO beleives that an education emphasizing critical thinking and exposure to a variety of viewpoints encourages intercultural understanding and acceptance of others. With these goals in mind, IBO has created a specific and detailed teaching framework to best prepare students to become critical thinkers and active participants in a multicultural world. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the IBO is a curriculum taught to children ages 3 to 12, the Middle Years Programme for children 11-16 and the Diploma Program for ages 16-19. The curriculum is designed to be administered in any country and is recognized by universities worldwide.
Benefits of an Immersion Program
With growing globalization, learning a second or 'foreign' language can help in opening doors of opportunity. Many studies show that young childern learn a second language as quickly and effortlessly as they learn their native language. Exposure to a second language tunes the young child's brain to the abstract concepts of language as well as the various nuances of sounds used to communicate. The combination of the two further enhances their understanding and ability to communicate in his/her native language.
