Preparing for ISB’s NYSAIS Accreditation Visit

by Delphine Michaud, Director of Lower School

The past year and a half has required tremendous effort from the ISB community, work that has helped us analyze and reflect on all that ISB does across its departments. The dedication of our community, our parents, our staff, and our students is embodied in ISB’s Self-Study, which was sent to the NYSAIS Accreditation visiting committee last week. Writing this important report has proven to be an incredibly informative and reflective process, and we will use its insights to help guide planning for ISB and its future. With the report finished, we can now turn our attention to preparing for the arrival of the Visiting Committee, whose members will join us for four days in April to observe firsthand how ISB lives out its mission.

These weeks leading up to the committee’s visit will be focused on preparing our facility and ourselves to welcome our special guests. Laura and I, as Co-Chairs of ISB’s NYSAIS Report, are busy creating a schedule that will allow the visiting committee members to meet with prearranged groups who can speak to each section of the 125 page self-study report; we are also making arrangements to welcome and feed our guests, and preparing a space for our visitors to work while at ISB.

As we gear up for this exciting visit, we are looking forward to receiving the committee members and sharing with them all of the amazing work we do here each and everyday. While allowing ourselves to be examined so closely by peer educators and school administrators comes with some nervous anticipation, we are proud of our program and our accomplishments, and we look forward to the committee’s thoughtful advice on how we can make ISB even stronger. We are certain that the accreditation team will see all of the wonderful, joyful learning that takes place in our classrooms, and we are confident that their visit will bring to life all that we have written about in our self-study report. We are thankful for the continued participation of many of members of our community in this next phase of our accreditation process, and we look forward to celebrating yet another exciting milestone for ISB.
