On Friday, April 15th, ISB celebrated National Poetry Month with its annual Multilingual Poetry Slam!

After their last afternoon of Cultural Week workshops, the Poetry Slam participants gathered in the multipurpose room (the old cafeteria). The students were amazed to see the space converted into ISB’s very own pop-up poetry lounge!

“This was my first time doing the Poetry Slam. I had no idea what to expect!” -Lola (Spanish 3rd Grade)

The Poetry Slam was open to all students in 2nd-8th Grade who wanted to perform an original poem in the language of their choice.  Participating students submitted their poems, and during the event, Poetry Slam M.C.s Macarena Martin Caballero and Laura Vial chose from the pile of poems and called on each of the students to take the stage and share their poems and short stories with the audience.

We applauded our students (with snaps, in the fashion of the Poetry Slam) for their courage and creativity. It was a great way for students to show off their language skills and a fitting end to Cultural Week.
