Author Gabrielle Balkan visited the ISB Library to talk all about maps with our 1st Graders. From maps with famous landmarks, to maps based on population, to maps of soil type, to even a map of song lyrics; Gabrielle showed our students that “you can make a map of anything!” With her latest book containing all different kinds of maps, What A Map Can Do, Gabrielle explained how to use a legend to read a map. Then, when she asked what shape our students would make a map of New York City, our 1st Graders had brilliant responses, “a skyscraper” and “a museum, because there are a lot of museums here.” Gabrielle’s visit had everything — including a map of the concentration of goats in the U.S.!
