  • Middle School English Language and Literature Teacher

    International School of Brooklyn seeks a dynamic, hardworking, full-time Middle School English Teacher for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year and beyond.

     

    The ideal candidate is one who understands and enjoys working with middle school students (ages 11-14), who loves English literature and language, and who inspires students to love them as well. Other ideal attributes include commitment, patience, strong classroom management skills, positive energy, a sense of humor, and commitment to making curriculum accessible to all types of learners. 

     

    Description of Position

    • Teach multiple sections of 6th and 7th grade English classes
    • Collaborate with other English teachers across the school
    • Serve as a Homeroom teacher for a group of middle school students
    • Help run division-wide clubs, electives, or fulfill supervisory duties as required by the Middle School Division
    • Write detailed narrative reports twice per year
    • Write recommendations in support of students’ high school applications (as needed)
    • Develop unit planners in line with the IB’s philosophy, including hands-on investigations and real-world projects
    • Foster a positive, inquiry-based learning environment 
    • Support students outside of class as needed during the school day
    • Provide timely and consistent feedback to students and families 
    • Communicate effectively and build strong partnerships with students, families, and colleagues
    • Attend and chaperone annual overnight trips (as needed)
    • Model and promote kindness, positivity, and integrity both in and out of the classroom

     

    Qualifications:

    • Teaching experience, preferably in a middle school setting; experience teaching in an independent, international, or IB school is a plus
    • Degree in English or education, and/or significant experience and skill teaching English Language and Literature
    • Familiarity with and commitment to inquiry-based learning
    • Supportive, student-centered approach and ability to differentiate instruction
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Effective classroom management skills with commitment to restorative practices and positive behavior support
    • High level of comfort and experience with educational technology including Google Suite (or a sincere willingness to learn these tools)
    • Collaborative spirit and a commitment to being a team player
    • Dedication to professional growth and participation in school-wide initiatives

     

    Compensation & Benefits

    Salary range: $64,442-106,37, commensurate with experience

  • Middle School Science Teacher Family Leave Replacement (Full-Time)

    International School of Brooklyn seeks a dynamic, hardworking, Middle School Science Leave-Replacement 2025-26 school year.

     

    The ideal candidate is one who understands and enjoys working with middle school students (ages 11-14), who is a skilled classroom teacher with a strong knowledge and love of science, and who inspires students to embrace various facets of the discipline as well. Other ideal attributes include reliability, patience, strong classroom management skills, positive energy, a sense of humor, and a commitment to making curriculum accessible to all types of learners. 

    This is a family leave position will begin on January 5, 2025 and will extend through May 4, 2025. Curriculum and materials will be provided but creativity and teacher autonomy will also be encouraged. 

    Description of position

    The individual will:

    • Teach 6th and 7th grade Science classes (two sections of each grade, each of which meets four times per week) 
    • Collaborate with other science teachers across the school
    • Serve as an advisor for a small group of seventh-grade students
    • Co-Advise our Student Council program
    • Fulfill other teaching and supervisory duties as required by the Middle School Division
    • Foster a positive learning environment that empowers students
    • Provide timely and consistent feedback to students and families 
    • Communicate effectively and build strong partnerships with students, families, and colleagues
    • Write detailed narrative reports
    • Model and promote kindness, positivity, and integrity both in and out of the classroom

    Requirements:

    • Teaching experience, preferably in a middle school setting; experience teaching in an independent, international, or IB school is a plus
    • Degree in Science or related subject; MA degree is a plus
    • Familiarity with and commitment to inquiry-based learning
    • Supportive, student-centered approach and ability to differentiate instruction
    • Ability and commitment to collaborating with other teachers
    • Desire to mentor students in an advisory role outside the classroom
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Effective classroom management skills with knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
    • Comfort and experience with educational technology, including Google Suite
    • Collaborative spirit and a commitment to being a team player
    • Dedication to professional growth and participation in school-wide initiatives

  • After-School Instructor

    International School of Brooklyn seeks a dynamic, hardworking, part-time After-School Instructor for the 2025-2026 school year and beyond.  

    Role Requirements:

    Candidates should have 2 years’ experience leading groups of 20 or more students of varying ages; with the ability to work with a range of students; aged 3 yrs to 12 yrs to complete tasks such as homework and manage conflict resolution. Strong
    communication and organizational skills are a must to be successful in this position. After School Instructors must be flexible with leading and supporting, to ensure a strong group dynamic. Candidates should enjoy a collaborative work setting.

    Specific Duties:

    The After School Instructor will:

    ● Be a fully reliable, collaborative, and resourceful presence for the general operation of the classroom
    ● Be actively involved in observing and interacting with students during work and play times and lead small group learning activities
    ● Take care of the general upkeep of the learning environment
    ● Demonstrate initiative in supporting the needs of the classroom
    ● Plan and supervise the daily activities of the assigned group; including leading small group activities and game
    ● Assist students with homework as necessary (in Grades 1-5)
    ● Establish and maintain positive communication with faculty, staff, children and families
    ● Prepare and serve snacks to students
    ● Escort students to and from enrichment classes
    ● Keep rooms and spaces clean, organized, and stocked
    ● Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)
    ● Compose a monthly newsletter including written descriptions and pictures documenting program activities
    ● Attend all professional development, planning, and program staff meetings

    In addition, there are Team meetings with mandatory attendance. Part-time Aftercare Instructor positions (2:30 pm to 6:00 pm).
