Tuition & Tuition Assistance

International School of Brooklyn is an independent, non-profit institution whose operating expenses are covered primarily through tuition fees and fundraising.

ISB enrolls students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds as part of our commitment to building a diverse and inclusive school community. Our need-based financial aid program is available to students at all grade levels and helps families bridge the gap between what they can afford to contribute towards their child’s tuition and the full annual tuition fee.

For the 2024–2025 academic year, ISB awarded over $3 million in aid to 30% of the student body. Financial assistance extends beyond tuition, as those who receive tuition assistance are also given assistance for other programs, including After School Care and Athletics, the summer program, and lunch program.

Deposit & Tuition for the 2025-2026 School Year

Tuition includes the cost of books, field trips and overnight trips, classroom activities, and materials. Tuition does not include the lunch program, the After School & Enrichment program, the Athletics program, the Middle School laptop fee, or the Parents’ Association fee of $100.

Pre-K 3: $38,110

Pre-K 4: $39,928

Kindergarten through 5th Grade: $45,143

6th through 8th Grade: $49,798

Tuition for the 2026-2027 school year will be set in January 2026.

A $5000 deposit is paid with all signed enrollment contracts to secure a student’s place at ISB. For families who receive tuition assistance, the deposit amount is adjusted. The deposit is deducted from the tuition balance.

Tuition Payment Plan Options

We offer three tuition payment plans so that families can choose the one that works best for their budgeting:

Option 1: One payment plan

Tuition is paid in full by July 1.

Option 2: Two payment plan

Tuition is paid in two equal installments: 50% is due by July 1 and 50% is due by October 1.

Option 3: 10 month payment plan

Tuition payments are spread over ten months. Payment is due each month starting July 1 through April 1. There is an additional one-time administrative fee of $100 associated with this plan.

Applying for Tuition Assistance

International School of Brooklyn uses a third-party platform, Clarity, to process tuition assistance applications. Clarity guides parent(s)/guardian(s) in completing a family application, which asks for information about income, expenses, assets, and liabilities. A completed application allows Clarity to estimate the family contribution, the amount of discretionary income a family can be expected to pay toward tuition. ISB’s Tuition Assistance Committee uses that estimate, in combination with completed tax documentation, to determine financial aid awards. The Tuition Assistance Committee keeps all financial information confidential and makes awards regardless of race, color, sex, religion, creed, gender expression, national origin, ethnic group, or disability. The amount of aid given to families ranges from 5% to 95% of tuition, and families from a wide range of income levels have qualified based on individual circumstances.

Families must apply for aid each year as renewal is not automatic or guaranteed. All families applying for tuition assistance, both new and returning, must meet submission deadlines. Tuition assistance applications become available in October. The deadline to submit for the 2026-2027 school year is December 3, 2025 for currently enrolled families and January 8, 2026 for applicant families.

Families applying to ISB should indicate their intention to apply for tuition assistance on their child’s admissions application. Applicants are notified of tuition assistance packages when admissions acceptance letters are sent in February. If you are applying off-cycle, check with the Admissions Office before applying for tuition assistance, as funds may be limited beyond the regular admissions season.

French Bourse

If your child is a French citizen, you may qualify for a need-based Bourse from the French government for Pre-K 3 to 5th Grade. The application for the Bourse is made available by the French Consulate in mid-January and the final decisions for the Bourse are made in mid-summer. Applicant families who plan to apply for the Bourse program should notify ISB’s Admissions Office and should also complete the Clarity tuition assistance application.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I apply and what is the deadline?

ISB uses Clarity to process tuition assistance applications. You can access the application at this link: https://auth.clarityapp.com/en/signup/. Follow the prompt to login or to create your account. In addition to a completed application, we request copies of last year’s tax returns (1099, 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) and W2 statements or other proof of income (if applicable) through Clarity. Self-employed parents should also include all related business forms with your 1040 file (i.e., Schedule C, Schedule E, 1120, 1065, and/or K-1).
An overview of the Clarity application can be found here in English: Clarity Family Application Guide and here in Spanish: Guía de Aplicación de Clarity Para Las Familias.

Tuition assistance applications for the 2026-2027 school year will become available on October 1, 2025. The deadline to submit is December 3, 2025 for currently enrolled families and January 8, 2026 for applicant families. Applicant families should indicate on their admissions application that they intend to apply for tuition assistance.

  • Do I need to reapply for tuition assistance?

Yes, families need to reapply every year. Tuition assistance awards are granted for one academic year at a time. Once assistance has been awarded, families can expect that it will be renewed, provided their financial situation has not changed substantially and that they have completed the Clarity application for the upcoming school year.

  • How are tuition assistance awards determined?

ISB’s tuition assistance committee reviews all applications in December and January and makes tuition assistance awards annually. The committee uses Clarity to process and analyze all applications. Clarity evaluates a family’s expected contribution to tuition using factors entered in their application, such as income, cost of living, family size, real estate equity, liquid assets, business income, payments to retirement plans, discretionary spending, medical expenses, child support, rental or mortgage payments, etc.

  • Can I appeal an award decision?

Yes, an appeals process is available for tuition assistance awards. Families are asked to complete an appeals form and provide additional information to help the tuition assistance committee better understand the family’s financial situation.

  • What is included in tuition? Are there other school fees?

Tuition payments at ISB cover all school materials, books, field trips, and overnight trips. Families receiving tuition assistance will receive the same percentage of assistance for additional fee-charging programs such as school lunch, After School Care, athletics, and the summer program.

  • Will my family qualify for tuition assistance?

Families must submit an application through Clarity to determine eligibility for tuition assistance. Families with a range of incomes may qualify for tuition assistance. Currently, 86% of families who receive tuition assistance have a combined household income below $300,000. Income is just one out of many considered factors; Clarity will gather income, assets, and liability data to determine your family’s expected financial need.

  • If I enroll without tuition assistance, can I apply for it the following year?

When a student enrolls at ISB without having applied for financial assistance, it is the school’s expectation that the family will not apply for tuition assistance within the first two years of enrollment. Exceptions may be made if there is demonstration of a significant change in a family’s financial circumstances. Families must notify ISB of any change of financial circumstances that may positively or negatively affect their ability to pay tuition.

  • When will I find out the results of my tuition assistance application?

Current families receive their tuition assistance awards along with re-enrollment contracts in January. Applicants who are offered admission to ISB and a tuition assistance package are notified of both when decisions are released in February. If you are applying off-cycle, we recommend that you check with the Admissions Office before applying for tuition assistance, as funds may be limited beyond the regular admissions season.

  • Can international families apply for tuition assistance?

Yes, international families can apply for tuition assistance. Families who do not have US tax returns are asked to submit alternate documentation regarding family finances and proof of income. The tuition assistance committee may request additional information or documentation if needed.

  • What is the French Bourse?

If your child is a French citizen, you may apply for a need-based Bourse from the French government. Please note that, in line with ISB’s accreditation from the French Ministry of Education, Bourse awards can be used for enrollment in Pre-K 3 to 5th Grade only. The Bourse is managed through the French Consulate and takes into account a family’s financial profile and assets to determine whether they qualify for government aid; it is not a subsidy program for families wishing to attend accredited French schools. Applicant families who plan to apply for the Bourse program should notify ISB’s Admissions Office and should also complete the Clarity tuition assistance application.

Families applying for the Bourse should contact the French Consulate. More information about the program and required documents can be found here: https://newyork.consulfrance.org/-bourses-aefe-.
