How the ISB experience comes to life

The ISB experience doesn’t simply happen. It is built every day by extraordinary educators, meaningful programs, and a community that believes deeply in our mission.

The Fund for Excellence helps make it possible.

How ISB Works

Tuition is the foundation.

Community giving strengthens the experience.

Together, they support the people, programs, and opportunities that make ISB exceptional.

Why doesn’t tuition cover everything?

Our approach to tuition matters.

Rather than placing the entire cost of an ISB education on tuition alone, ISB intentionally combines tuition with philanthropy. Our approach allows us to strengthen the student experience while keeping an ISB education accessible to more families, and it is how many independent schools operate; it’s one of the ways great school communities continue to grow and thrive.

FAQs

  • What is the Fund for Excellence?

The Fund for Excellence (FFE) is ISB’s annual giving program.

Each year, it provides immediate, unrestricted support for the school’s highest priorities, allowing ISB to invest where the need is greatest. Gifts to the FFE strengthen every aspect of school life, from faculty excellence and classroom resources to arts, athletics, and learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

  • Why doesn’t tuition cover the full cost of an ISB education?

Like many independent schools, ISB intentionally combines tuition with philanthropy to support the full educational experience.

Rather than placing the entire cost of an ISB education on tuition alone, we rely on community giving through the Fund for Excellence to strengthen the people, programs, and opportunities that make ISB exceptional while helping keep an ISB education accessible to more families.

Tuition builds the foundation. Community giving strengthens the experience.

  • Why is participation important?

A strong culture of giving is one sign of a strong school community.

Participation demonstrates a shared commitment to ISB and the educational experience we create together. It also reflects the strength of our community to those considering investing in ISB’s future.

While every family’s gift is different, every family’s participation strengthens our community.

As we like to say: No single family builds ISB. Together, we do.

  • How much should my family give?

Every family’s circumstances and philanthropic priorities are unique.

We invite each family to make a gift that is meaningful for them and reflects their belief in ISB and its mission. Our goal is not equal gifts, it is meaningful participation across our community.

  • Is my gift tax-deductible?

    Yes.

International School of Brooklyn is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions to the Fund for Excellence are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

  • Does my employer offer matching gifts?

Many employers match charitable contributions made by their employees, allowing your gift to have an even greater impact.

Check with your employer’s Human Resources department or corporate giving office to see whether your company offers a matching gift program.

  • Can I make a gift through my donor-advised fund (DAF)?

    Yes.

ISB gratefully accepts gifts from donor-advised funds. Please contact the Advancement Office if you need our tax identification number or additional information.

  • Can I donate appreciated stock or securities?
